Quote:
When Was the First Christmas? by D.M. Murdock/Acharya S

"For the past nearly 1,700 years, a significant portion of the Western world has celebrated the day of December 25th as the birth of the divine Son of God and Savior Jesus Christ. Thousands of images have been created, as well as songs, poems and other artistic creations, depicting the baby Jesus lying in a manger surrounded by ox and lamb, with the Virgin Mary, Joseph, angels and three Wise Men looking on in wonder at the luminous infant. This imagery, we are told, represents the very first Christmas, when the Lord of the Universe was born on this earth, on the 25th day of December in the year 1 AD/CE. But is this story true?

"O, how wonderfully acted Providence that on that day on which that Sun was born...Christ should be born."

I knew somebody would say it - I wondered how long it would take. Apparently, not long at all. Good one!

I wanted to be sure that everyone saw this image, which is the month of December from my 2010 Astrotheology Calendar. I think all the celebrations of light from around the northern hemisphere are just so fascinating!

Although my 2011 Astrotheology Calendar doesn't have the days filled out like this one, it does have some really good stuff about the images representing the months of the year!

What continues to astonish me about this calendar page is that the Egyptian calendar - which is wandering and which completely runs through the days of the year every 1,460 years - just happened to have a slew of solar festivals end up in the month of December around the year 1 AD/CE, which is when my calendar is calculated.

For example, the Egyptian solar deity Osiris's Passion ends up occurring throughout the solstitial period during that era. Also, the holiday of the "Going Forth of the Mysterious Great Ones to Look for the Sun Disc" on December 17th - how appropriate!

"Waiting to Annihilate Horus, Savior of His Father" on the 19th would also be appropriate, since Horus too is largely a sun god and this is the time of the sun's apparent "annihilation" by the "Prince of Darkness" or Set.

Then there's:

December 14 - Mysteries of Osiris begin
December 15 - Day of Making Embalming Ointment for Osiris
December 16 - Day of Looking at the Sun Disc
December 20 - Funeral of Osiris begins
December 21 - Feast of Isis (who looks for Osiris)
December 22 - Festival and Rising of Osiris, Festival of Sokar
December 25 - Voyage of Osisir
December 26 - Resurrection of Osiris

And so on, all around the winter solstice - incredible! When this information is placed into the contextual puzzle, i.e., this calendar, it makes so much sense, and it's clear the Egyptians knew what they were doing and were following natural cycles.

It's impossible to believe that mythographers and priestly religion-makers of the era did not notice this amazing conjunction of solar festivals, as the many different peoples of the Empire were becoming more unified. It is likely they found this period of the early first centuries BCE and AD/CE to be very auspicious - enough to create a successful new religion, i.e., Christianity!

And the success with which Christian propaganda managed to sever the connection to the winter solstice is also astonishing. I don't know about you, but I grew up being completely unaware of the existence of winter-solstice celebrations (with a mere hint of Yule in the background) - I certainly did not realize until I was an adult that "Christmas" in reality represented the birth of the SUN.

The damage caused by this deceptive behavior that has downplayed and hidden away the knowledge of our natural cycles is incalculable. Not the least of which is the anger when "true believers" find out the truth.
