While reading the Google books preview of Christ in Egypt, I was most interested in the statement on page 89, by a certain Dr Weinstock, that the calendar of Antiochus of Athens, an ancient astrologer, showed an entry on 25th December "Birth of the sun. The light grows".

I have obtained a copy of Boll's 1910 publication of the calendar, and uploaded it in PDF form here:

http://www.archive.org/details/Griechis ... sAntiochos

(Boll published 4 calendars -- I uploaded the others also, under the title Griechische Kalendar 1-4).

Looking at the entries in Antiochus, I wasn't sure that any of these relate to anything except astrological data? If so, this statement doesn't really tell us about contemporary society -- not unless there are other society-related entries -- but merely about the astrological phenomenon.

Thoughts gratefully received.

All the best,

Roger Pearse
