Charles Darwin film ‘too controversial for religious America’
A British film about Charles Darwin has failed to find a US distributor because his theory of evolution is too controversial for American audiences, according to its producer.
It has been sold in almost every territory around the world, from Australia to Scandinavia. However, US distributors have resolutely passed on a film which will prove hugely divisive in a country where, according to a Gallup poll conducted in February, only 39 per cent of Americans believe in the theory of evolution.

Thanks for posting that bit of info drichards. It's a bit odd to me that the producers fear controversy because that, to me, is just additional free publicity creating a larger audience in the end. And, they couldn't possibly think that such a film wouldn't produce any controversy at all - that would be even more weird.

I might not have rushed out to see this film at the theater but, now with all this controversy, I may just have to.

Freethinkaluva22,
What you state is true, yet it seems to me in this regard it does not apply because the fundamentalist (even though they are a minority) are very tenacious, loud and uncompromising. It is amazing how much control they have.

Your point is indeed valid. And, in my view, gives us more reason to focus on & expose religious fanaticism, bigotry & fundamentalism - this is precisely how the Inquisitions got started, WW2 & how Hypatia was eventually murdered.

They have the right to think & believe as they wish however, they do not have the right to censor & revise history just because Christians don't like the facts & evidence.
